Moral Coral

How we throw waste into the sea without thinking about it and we decided to make a game about it. 

Coral reefs are the secret defenders of our oceans with 25 percent of the oceans fish depending on coral reefs for life. In addition to that, coral reefs provide food and income for millions of people and protect our shores from potentially damaging waves and flooding. “When reefs are damaged or destroyed, the absence of this natural barrier can increase the damage to coastal communities from normal wave action and violent storms.” (NOAA)However, because of climate change, our coral reefs are dying at an alarming rate due to the rising ocean temperatures and plastic waste that may damage coral. With that, we decided to create a game that addresses the importance of our coral reefs: Moral Coral.

Moral Coral at its core is a game about what affects our coral reefs. The objective is to balance the ecosystem, between research, money, and corals. The player gets to choose whether to keep adding plastic that would destroy the corals or spend money on research. If the player adds more plastic, the player gets more money but it leaves the corals more vulnerable to get destroyed by the typhoon in the process. Through this game the player sees the cause and effects of climate change on our coral reefs and the importance of sustainability.
